Congress approves Nellis spending

WASHINGTON -- Congress last week approved a $10.5 billion budget bill for military construction projects, including nearly $57 million for Nellis Air Force Base.
The money includes $19.5 million to purchase 220 acres of privately owned land next to the northern end of a runway at Nellis. Development proposals are encroaching on the base, Air Force officials say, and they need the land to protect their ability to take off with live ordnance.

In other action, Congress passed a $355 billion budget bill for the Defense Department, which contained the annual budget for Nevada's military bases, as well as $89 million worth of specific projects and programs in the state. Included in that bill:
