Albright leaves NLV for Water Authority

North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department Director Kenneth Albright is leaving the city for a job at the Southern Nevada Water Authority, he said Thursday.
Albright, 43, will be director of resources at the Water Authority, where he will supervise a staff of 48 full-time employees and oversee research and monitoring of environmental issues in the Colorado River, Las Vegas Wash and groundwater. He will also be involved in negotiations for additional water resources, he said.
Albright's starting annual salary will be $129,560, Water Authority spokesman Vince Alberta said.
As director of the North Las Vegas recreation department, Albright supervises 50 full-time employees and about 200 part-time seasonal workers. He also oversees the development, maintenance, and scheduling of recreation activities of 28 city parks or recreation centers.
His annual salary from North Las Vegas is $109,193, city spokeswoman Brenda Johnson said.
Albright said the pay increase was not much of a factor in his decision to change jobs.
He said going to the Water Authority is "an opportunity for me to rejoin the engineering side of the house."
"I am an engineer. Also, the water issues in the valley intrigue me."
Before taking a job with North Las Vegas almost 12 years ago, Albright spent two years with the Las Vegas Valley Water District.
Albright has headed the recreation department for about 2 1/2 years, before which he was assistant director of the city's Public Works Department.
