ELection 2002: Senate District 8

After a close primary win, incumbent Republican Barbara Cegavske will face Democrat Kristen Hansen.

Cegavske, 50, who has served three terms in the Assembly, is director of development for the WestCare Foundation. She has served on the Transportation, Education and Ways and Means committees.

She is focusing on giving home builders the right to repair construction defects, health care affordability and restructuring the tax system.

Hansen, 54, owns Kristen & Friends Manufacturers' Representative Sales Group, and ran unsuccessfully in 2000 for the Assembly District 5 seat.

Hansen is focusing on education, diversifying Nevada's economy, reducing student-to-teacher ratios and hiring more bilingual and math and science teachers.
