Election 2002: Public Administrator
Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 | 10:39 a.m.
Candidates for public administrator are Democrat Dan Ahlstrom, Republican Paula Walsh, Green Party candidate Bob Parker and Independent American Anna Kjorvestad.
The public administrator oversees the estates of those who die without wills.
Ahlstrom, a chief deputy district attorney, said he would always be available to the public if elected. He has been a justice of the peace, a deputy city attorney and assistant U.S. attorney.
Walsh, a court reporter, says she would open up the use of attorneys, real estate brokers, banks and stockbrokers in the office of public administrator. She is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators.
Parker, a sociology professor, believes he offers an alternative to the two major parties and hopes that his candidacy will encourage more people to become politically involved.
Kjorvestad, a senior at Silverado High School, can learn fast and is "one of the few candidates who's not corrupt," according to her campaign manager, Nicholas Hansen.
