Election 2002: County Commission District F

Front-runner Mark James, who adopted many of incumbent and lieutenant governor candidate Erin Kenny's supporters, squeaked past Republican Tim Cory in a tight race for the County Commission seat.

Republicans James and Cory were engaged in perhaps the most heated campaign leading up to the Sept. 3 primary.

The 43-year-old Nevada state senator narrowly defeated Cory, a bankruptcy attorney. James is considered a clear favorite in the general election against Democrat Frank Boehnlein, a 57-year-old tour coordinator.

James is seeking stronger zoning laws to protect neighborhoods from commercial districts and casinos. He also supports putting more police officers on the streets.

Boehnlein, who conducts tours for Nevada Landing and Gold Strike in Jean, said his primary concerns are Southern Nevada's dwindling water sources. He plans to implement additional conservation programs. Boehnlein also plans to address rising utility rates.
