Election 2002: Assembly District 23

Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins, a Democrat, is unopposed in his bid for a sixth term for the district that covers central and southeast Henderson.

His name will appear on the ballot because Nevada law requires a single vote be cast in his favor for him to remain in office.

Perkins, who 10 days after the election will turn 41, is a Henderson Police Department deputy chief. He has twice served as majority leader.

He plans to do more work in the funding of education.

There are nearly 19,900 registered voters in his district. Among them are about 9,000 Democrats and more than 7,200 Republicans.
