Election 2002: Assembly District 19
Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 | 11:17 a.m.
Incumbent Democrat Jerry Claborn faces Republican Duane Threm and Independent American Warren Stephens for the seat that represents northeast Las Vegas around Nellis Air Force Base.
A Nevada resident of 44 years, Claborn, 63, is concerned about the rising cost of electrical power to residents and businesses as well as in the rising costs of construction resulting from housing defects lawsuits.
He says he will work for a better school system and a resolution to the nursing shortage. Claborn also will seek ways to address growth and the means to cope with it.
Neither of Claborn's opponents responded to the Sun's requests for information.
There are nearly 13,300 registered voters in the district. Among them are more than 6,500 Democrats and more than 4,300 Republicans.
