Electronic Media Awards on tap
Working in Communications will host its 15th annual Electronic Media Awards beginning with a silent auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Rio, to recognize excellence in electronic advertising and broadcasting and honor outstanding professionals in the field.
Proceeds from the EMAs go directly into a WIC scholarship fund for qualified students attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Community College of Southern Nevada.

Gardeners can get some expert help
Horticulturists, landscape designers and other professionals are preparing for the year's landscape-oriented event at 8 a.m. Saturday at Desert Demonstration Gardens, 3701 W. Alta Drive, with a full day of classes starting at 9 a.m.
In addition to the more than 50 information booths, classes will run continually through 3 p.m. For more information, call 258-3205.
Black journalists to host seminar
The Las Vegas Association of Black Journalists will hold a media seminar from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the MGM Grand Conference Center Vista Ballroom, Rooms 208 and 209.
Nonprofit organizations, students and anyone interested in learning how different media operate -- broadcast, print and public relations.
Hear from local television and print journalist and media-related professionals on various topics including "How to Get Your First Job," "What Makes a Good Press Release," "What Constitutes a Feature/Human Interest Story," and "The Role of the Ethnic Media."

The North Las Vegas Parks
and Recreation Department will hold the second concert in a four-part Courtyard Concert Series from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive. The concert session will feature jazz and blues music by The Cunninghams and The Spell Casters. For additional information, call 633-1612.
