McMurray wins in second Cup start

Jamie McMurray, driving in only his second Winston Cup race, shocked the NASCAR world with a victory in the UAW-GM 500 in Charlotte, N.C.

The 26-year-old McMurray has never won a Busch race and drove to a 26th-place finish in his Cup debut a week earlier in Talladega, Ala.

UNLV women drop MWC opener to Lobos

In thier Mountain West Conference opener, the UNLV women's soccer team fell to league rival New Mexico 1-0 on Sunday at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Cabrera misses HR record in Japan

Alex Cabrera finished the regular season tied for the Japanese home run record today after not hitting one in his final five games.

Cabrera, a former Arizona Diamondbacks player who plays for the Seibu Lions of the Pacific League, tied the record of 55 last week.

The Venezuelan matched Yomiuri Giants slugger Sadaharu Oh's mark, set in 1964 and tied by former Boston Red Sox outfielder Tuffy Rhodes a year ago.

McDyess out with fractured kneecap

In another damaging blow to the New York Knicks, Antonio McDyess has a fractured kneecap that will sideline him indefinitely.

The Knicks announced the news a day after McDyess went down clutching his left knee with 1:55 remaining in a preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns.

Hurricanes stay No. 1 for another week

Miami has itself a record-setting streak -- most consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press college football poll.

The Hurricanes, who extended the nation's longest winning streak to 28 games with a 28-27 win over Florida State, remained in the top spot for a record 19th straight poll.
