Hansen submits information to ethics panel

Monday, Oct. 14, 2002 | 11:15 a.m.

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU

CARSON CITY -- The state Ethics Commission says it has 15 days to hold a hearing on a complaint by Christopher Hansen, an Independent American candidate for secretary of state, that alleges his opponent incumbent Dean Heller libeled him and impeded his campaign.

Hansen of Henderson maintains Heller made a false statement with malice when he said "This guy (Hansen) wants to be secretary of state and he won't even follow the rules he's supposed to enforce."

Commission Counsel Nancy Lee Varnum said today that Heller will have a chance to respond to the allegations by Hansen and then a hearing must be held within 15 days of the time Hansen submitted his final documents. Hansen said he complied with the request of the ethics commission last Friday to submit additional documents backing up his claim.
