Former teacher sentenced for porn
A former Brinley Middle School teacher has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography on his computer.
Daniel Tenbroeck, 34, told U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt on Friday that he accepted responsibility for what he had done.
"I'd like to apologize to my family, friends, school district and my former students for all the disappointment I brought to them," Tenbroeck said.
Tenbroeck was originally arrested in August 2001 by Metro Police on 20 counts of possession of child pornography, but authorities and Tenbroeck's attorney David Chesnoff agreed that the case should be heard in a federal court.
Detectives with the Las Vegas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received information from authorities in the Midwest that a Las Vegas man was sending child pornography to a person he thought was a child, but was actually an undercover detective.
Tenbroeck, who has been living near St. Charles, Ill., with his parents and sister, will be required to undergo counseling for sex offenders and for alcohol abuse while in prison. He has been ordered to surrender to authorities to begin his sentence on Dec. 27.
46 months given in meth case
A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison and a $10,000 fine for distributing a chemical used to manufacture methamphetamine.
Van Lee was also ordered to forfeit $400,000 to the government at a Friday hearing before U.S. District Court Judge Kent Dawson.
In a plea agreement Lee accepted responsibility for distributing pseudoephedrine and structuring a transaction to evade reporting requirements by depositing proceeds from the sale at a Las Vegas bank.
Springfield Sam indicted in shooting
"Springfield" Sam Manarite, the 83-year-old reputed mob member, has been indicted on four charges in connection with a shooting incident at an auto dealership.
According to an indictment unsealed Friday, Manarite faces two counts of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon and one count each of burglary while in possession of a firearm and removing the serial number of a firearm.
Witnesses told police that Manarite fired shots at Astro Auto Sales in September after a confrontation involving the sale of a car.
One of the men was was shot in the wrist during the incident and Manarite was shot in the shoulder when the alleged victim fired back.
A preliminary hearing in the Manarite case was canceled earlier this month when the alleged victims failed to show up to testify. Court documents indicate they testified before the grand jury Thursday.
