Valentine takes job in county

Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002 | 9:53 a.m.

Clark County Manager Thom Reilly hired former Las Vegas City Manager Virginia Valentine on Wednesday to be his third assistant manager.

Of the three finalists who made the last round of interviews on Wednesday, Valentine was considered to be the leading candidate to replace former Assistant County Manager Mike Alastuey.

Reilly and Valentine have yet to settle on a salary. Valentine, who can earn up to $150,000 a year, will join Reilly's other assistants, Rick Holmes and Catherine Cortez Masto.

The other finalists were Gail Waiters, assistant city manager of Oakland, Calif., and Marlene Lockard, who was chief of staff under former Gov. Richard Bryan.

Valentine, who served as city manager for four years, is senior vice president of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
