Last week: After finishing fifth at the state tournament to cap her junior season, Sondia Gogue is in the midst of a stellar senior season for the Blazers. Last week, Gogue medaled in both of Durango's matches (wins over Bonanza and Western), and for the season, Gogue has served as the match medalist 12 times. "She's been doing great, she really has been," Durango coach Kathy Faber said. "She's really been working hard on her game, too." Durango is the defending 4A state champion in girls golf.
Sondia Gogue
School: Faith Lutheran
Class: Sophomore
Sport: Football
Last week: The Crusaders earned their first win in eight years over Meadows last Friday, and running back John Nixon had a big hand in the victory. Nixon turned in a huge day, rushing for 161 yards and three touchdowns in Faith Lutheran's 44-0 triumph. "It was kind of a breakout game for him," Faith Lutheran coach Jacob Kothe said. "He ran the ball really well." Nixon also saw significant playing time last season as a freshman for the Crusaders.
