Currently: After redshirting the 2001 season, the 19-year-old Sims is making an impact for 18th-ranked Washington in the defensive secondary. Sims is seeing regular time at strong safety for the Huskies, having played in all five of the team's games. Sims is tied for sixth on the team in tackles with 17 (10 solo, seven assists). He also has one pass breakup. Though he sat out last football season, Sims competed for the Washington track team in the spring, qualifying for the Pac-10 Championships in the triple jump.
Looking back: Sims shined during his senior year with the Vikings. During football season, Sims rushed for 1,756 yards and 17 touchdowns and became one of the city's most feared defensive backs, garnering All-State honors. Competing in track, Sims turned in a 50-foot, 2-inch triple jump, good for second in the nation that year. Sims also carried a 4.0 GPA and served as student body president.
