WEST GREENWICH, R.I. -- GTECH Holdings Corp., the world's largest lottery-systems operator, has named Emmett Paige Jr. as chairman of its board, the company announced Wednesday.
Paige will succeed W. Bruce Turner, who vacated the post to serve the company as president and chief executive officer.
Paige, who has been a director since 1997, is vice president of Lockheed Martin Corp.'s information technology unit.
"(Paige's) private sector leadership has been with companies focused on serving government requirements," Turner said in a statement. "His intimate knowledge of the standards of compliance and integrity will serve him well."
With fiscal 2002 revenue of $1 billion, GTECH, based in West Greenwich, supplies or operates lotteries for more than 80 customers in 44 countries.
Separately, the company announced it obtained a six-year, $300 million contract to provide a new online and instant-ticket system for the California Lottery.
The agreement, set to begin Oct. 14, 2003, includes four one-year extension options.
