UNLV women seventh in New Mexico event

UNLV women's golf freshmen Sunny Oh and Elena Kurokawa carded scores of 74 and 75, respectively, to lead the Rebels in first round play at the Price's Give 'Em Five Intercollegiate Monday in Las Cruces, N.M.

Oh, who sits in a seven-way tie for fourth place, recorded a career-best score at the 6,303-yard, par-72 University Golf Course in just her second tourney as a collegian. Kurokawa's two-over 75 comes on the heels of an even-par 73 shot in the final round of the Dick McGuire Invitational last weekend, and the duo's play has the Rebels sitting in a tie for seventh place in the 20-team field.

The University of New Mexico boasts both the first-round team and individual leaders. Kellyn Newman has a one stroke lead after an even-par round of 72, and the Lobos enjoy a five-shot edge after a team 299.
