The course was designed by Bobby Weed and Fuzzy Zoeller. As a stadium course, TPC at Summerlin was built to accommodate golfing fans with unrestricted views of tree shots, fairway approaches and putting through strategically placed spectator mounds and natural amphitheatres, while maintaining the course's integrity.
Zoeller was committed to fashioning a course that could accommodate the demands of a major tournament and appeal to the recreational golfer as well.
TPC at Summerlin, which opened for play in November 1991, was built in the heart of Summerlin, a 22,500-acre community on the western edge of the Las Vegas Valley.
TPC at the Canyons was designed to blend easily into its desert surroundings and is notable for its trees, elevation changes, steep ravines and a canyon lake.
One of only three course worldwide designed joitly by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr., and his son Robert Trent Jones Jr., the design features dramatic elevation changes, water features and challenging bunker patterns.
