SCORE to host business workshop

The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present the next "How to Really Start Your Own Business" workshop at 9 a.m. Thursday at 400 S. Fourth, Suite 240.

SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the business plan and a check list for licensing, permits and other requirements. The $45 cost includes a 292 page reference manual and a workshop to help analyze your business ideas. For more information or to pre-register, call 388-6104.

Crime prevention seminar set Saturday

A seminar for the National Rifle Association's Refuse To Be a Victim crime prevention program will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Community College of Southern Nevada facility at 2401 Las Verdes St.

The seminars promote awareness and prevention of criminal confrontations. Seminar topics include: home, automobile, phone, technological, travel, and personal security.

Parents will honor their lost babies

"Walk to Remember," an event planned in memory of the babies who died through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or newborn death, will be 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Children's Memorial Park, Rainbow Boulevard and Gowan Road.

Participants will walk around the park with balloons bearing the names of the babies they are remembering. The balloons will be released at a tree dedicated in memory of those infants.

The program also will include original songs and poems written by family members. Cake and refreshments will be provided.

A class on buying computers

will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday at the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane. Wendy Jaroslawski, visiting instructor, will teach what questions to ask before you deciding on a computer. Call 839-2980.

The Mid-East Cousins Club,

comprised of Jewish, Moslem, Christian, Humanist and followers of other faith traditions, will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the Moslem Center and Mosque, 4730 E. Desert Inn Road. A short film about a village in Israel will be shown. For more information, call 436-4900.

The Insurance Women of Las Vegas

Concierges collecting clothes for homeless

The Southern Nevada Hotel Concierge Association is hosting a four-month winter clothing drive now through Dec. 18, to benefit the homeless in Southern Nevada.

SNHCA members at more than 20 hotels are collecting donations.

Individuals and businesses interested in helping may call Tyra Bell-Bloom, chief concierge at The Venetian at 990-2570.

The Auxiliary to the American Osteopathic Association

has organized a blanket and coat drive and will be accepting donations to benefit the Southern Nevada Family Resource Centers. The group has asked its 7,000 members to donate a new blanket or jacket during its convention this week. Call Ann Taylor at 369-4357.
