Metro Police were investigating the death of a man discovered by a Senior Olympics bicycle race volunteer about 10 a.m. Saturday in the desert near Apex, 20 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
An autopsy performed by the Clark County coroner's office confirmed that the man died as a result of stab wounds and blunt trauma, Metro Police said this morning.
The victim, who is unidentified, is between 50 and 60 years old with gray hair. He is of Hawaiian or Pacific Islander descent, between 5-feet-6 and 5-feet-7 and 170 pounds.
His right index finger had been previously amputated at the first knuckle, police said. He had a gold, twisted rope chain around his neck with two rings on it. The rings appear to be a matching set of male and female wedding bands with the word "kuuipo" written on the exterior surface.
Anyone with information can call police at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
