Man says he was beaten by security

A Nevada resident has filed a lawsuit against Coast Casinos and Drai's on the Strip alleging he was beaten by security officers during an October 2000 visit.

Larry Jones alleges he was inside the Barbary Coast at Drai's at 4 a.m. on Oct. 5 when Tony Verdugo, an employee at Drai's and a defendant in the lawsuit, approached him and began to "menace and assault" him.

When Jones tried to leave, he alleges, security officers beat him with fists, bottles and chairs for several minutes and also choked him.

Although Jones said he was able to escape to the valet area of the Barbary Coast, he alleges Verdugo and nine to 10 security officers caught up with him and continued their assault as Barbary Coast security officers simply watched.

Jones claims employees of the Barbary Coast "negligently and or intentionally destroyed" videotapes of the incident.

Woman pleads guilty in drug scam

A 39-year-old Las Vegas woman accused of using drugs to render men unconscious and then rob them pleaded guilty Thursday to the gross misdemeanor crime of conspiracy to commit possession of a credit card without the owner's consent.

District Judge John McGroarty sentenced Melissa Davis to credit for time already served as specified in a plea agreement worked out by prosecutors and public defenders.

Brendalyn Lane, 23, and Davis, her roommate, had faced multiple counts in connection with a dozen incidents that involved tourists, many of whom came to Las Vegas from abroad.
