Savvy wine buys: Luna Pinot Grigio ‘00
Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 | 8:17 a.m.
Pinot Grigio is the Italian name for the well-known French varietal Pinot Gris. The grape is currently being grown in California with a vengeance, as this lush, delicious wine demonstrates.
The winemaker John Kongsgaard from Beringer has a peerless reputation. This fruity Pinot Grigio comes close to duplicating the flavor of its counterpart, also named Pinot Grigio, from northeast Italy.
Luna is a rich, mildly acidic wine that is also a robust 14.1 percent alcohol, rather high for this varietal. Wrinkle your nose, though, and you'll detect hints both of lime and anise. The wine is especially good with grilled fish.
Available at Lee's Discount Liquors, $17.56.
