Volunteers sought for cancer walk

The American Cancer Society is looking for 150 volunteers to help with its third annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer pledge walk.

The event will take place from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Valley Ranch Station.

Volunteers are needed for registration, water stations, parking, walk marshals and cheerleading. To help, call 798-6877, Ext. 22.

Parents urged to walk kids to school

Fourteen area elementary schools will take part in the the fifth annual "Walk Our Children to School Day" Wednesday to encourage parents to take an active role educating their children about pedestrian safety as well as the important role exercise plays in overall health.

The program is being coordinated by the Safe Community Partnership, an outreach program of the Transportation Research Center at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Children who participate will be given certificates from Smith's markets to redeem for apples.

Golf event will benefit Boy Scouts

The 12th annual Boy Scout Invitational Golf Tournament will begin with registration and a barbecue lunch at noon Wednesday at Stallion Mountain Golf Club, 5500 E. Flamingo Road.

A shot gun start will take place at 1:30 p.m.

The tournament will benefit the more than 36,000 Boy Scouts in Southern Nevada.

Computer group answers questions

The public is invited to a meeting of the Las Vegas Personal Computer Group at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the West Charleston Library's auditorium, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

The first hour will be a question-and-answer session in which the resident wizard answers virtually any computer-related query. Following that, a guest speaker will present the latest developments in his/her area of expertise.

the eighth annual International Adoption Search Registration Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the bookstore, Rainbow and Lake Mead boulevards, for those who are searching for birth parents, adopted children and any family member linked to the adoption triad.
