Letter: Green Party offers a viable political choice
Friday, Nov. 29, 2002 | 8:57 a.m.
For many history buffs, it is apparent to us that this President George Bush and his dad's old cronies are determined to transform the United States into an arrogant, warmongering, bullying, oil-crazed Third World dictatorship. Blaming 9-11 is no longer acceptable. And the silence of Democratic leaders is disheartening.
The Bush administration's plans for a revengeful, unprovoked attack on Iraq, and its concerns only for the wealthy, the unpunished corporate thieves and the disregard of environmental problems are no surprise to those aware of the Republican Party's long, twisted history. After all, the Republicans are the shameful reason that the U.S. is the only prosperous country in the world without national health care.
But let's wake up before it's too late! This is the most dangerous administration in our history. Bush's unconstitutional "Homeland (Fatherland?) Security," striping loyal Americans of their civil liberties and last vestiges of privacy has actually become law.
In 1992 the other George Bush supposedly had a 90 percent popularity rating, much higher than his appointed son's, yet he was soundly defeated by an obscure Arkansas governor after only one term. And Americans were rewarded with eight years of relative peace and prosperity.
Patriotic and alarmed Democrats and Republicans would be well advised to strongly consider the highly qualified, refreshing non-politican Ralph Nader and his admirable Green Party in 2004.
It is up to all of us to rescue our country from the present greedy, incompetent politicians.
