NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

For Nov. 29, 2002

Anglers at Lake Mead have been finding good action for striped bass in the Boulder Basin while fishing has been slow in the Overton Arm, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW).

Walt deMattos, NDOW creel census clerk, said shore fishing has been good for stripers at Las Vegas Bay for anglers who have been using anchovies for bait. Hemenway Harbor and Horsepower Cove have also been producing stripers.

Boaters who have been trolling with downriggers at 80 to 90 feet have been connecting with stripers near the Hemenway Wall in the Boulder Basin. One boater caught a 28-pound striper on Nov. 23 in that area.

About the only action that has been found recently in the Overton Arm has come in the Muddy River area where boaters are catching small stripers by drifting with anchovies.

A variety of lures are being used to catch stripers at Willow Beach, including O' Henry and Bomber Long A. The lures that have been most productive are those that have quite a bit of motion to attract the fish. Anglers who have been fishing with anchovies have had very little luck.

The next trout plant at Willow Beach is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 5.

A few trout in the 17-inch range have been caught recently, but most of the action has been for the nine-inch planters.
