Red Rock offers waterfalls and stars

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Hike Leaders Choice: Hike off that turkey on a four-mile moderate hike on a lush riparian trail with no less than three waterfalls, Friday.

The Planets and Constellations: A slide program at 5 p.m. Friday and 5:15 p.m. Saturday in the visitor center on the planets and solar system. If the sky is clear and there is no wind, telescopes will be set up.

Coyote Kids: A program in which children will travel back in time and learn about American Indian rock art, then go on a hike and searching adventure, Saturday.

Indian festival set all day Saturday

The Pulidor Foundation/Spirit of the Nations presents Buffalo Roast and Native American Arts and International Film Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Fitzgeralds Hotel.

The community will enjoy the traditional Indian dance, demonstrations of pottery making, and basket weaving. In addition, there will be exchanges made between the governors of Nevada and New Mexico and tribal leaders throughout the United States and Canada.

Other special events are planned from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., such as Buffalo Roast Luncheon with Indian entertainment, youth "Parade of the Nations," award presentation for agencies, schools, students that participated in the Native American Arts & International Film Festival elementary poster contest, middle school literary contest, and high school sculpture contest. Tickets for luncheon are $25 for adults; $12.50 for children ages 6-12; children 5 and under are free ($5 off admission for a new unwrapped toy for a boy or girl).

Red Cross hosts annual blanket drive

The 2002 American Red Cross of Southern Nevada Blanket Days campaign is being held through Dec. 31.

New twin-size blanket donations will be distributed to local disaster victims; financial donations will pay for additional blankets and other needed items through the local Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

Drop-off locations are at American Red Cross, 3672 N. Rancho Drive, and at the Clark County Health District, 625 Shadow Lane.

AIDS quilt will be put on display

The Clark County Health District will display the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt in a tribute to those who have lost their lives to AIDS, at 10 a.m. Monday at the County Government Center, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway.
