Candidates fail to file campaign reports

CARSON CITY -- Secretary of State Dean Heller said today 20 political candidates, including Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Wendell Williams, did not file their campaign expense reportsdue on Oct. 29.

As of today, seven candidates owe fines totaling $1,875 for the last period.

Williams, D-Las Vegas, also has never submitted his campaign expense report due in August and faces a $5,000 fine for that failure.

Heller also said 14 candidates filed late, and 20 candidates, mostly of the Independent American Party, submitted their documents but refused to include certain information, claiming their Fifth Amendment rights were being violated.

Those who have failed to file their October reports from Clark County are Brian Barnes of Assembly District 2; Darryl Glover of Assembly District 7; James Buchanan of Assembly District 14; Mike Hayes of Assembly District 19; Charles Carpenter and Jesse Harris, both of Assembly District 22, and Lloyd Hargis of District 37.

These candidates all face fines of $1,875, which is growing by $100 per day. The maximum fine is $5,000.

Candidates from Clark County who filed late and their fines are:

Denis Nolan in Senate District 1 who was one day late and owes $25; Joe Wheeler in Assembly District 3 who owes $50; Assemblyman Morse Arberry in District 7 who owes $25; Joanna Wesley, also in District 7 for $25 and district judge candidates Leonard Root $50; Tony Liker, $175, and Donn Prokopius for $1,500.
