Letter: Republicans initiated the stalling tactics
Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 | 4:12 a.m.
In response to Kyle L. Tingle's Nov. 18 letter, "Stalling hurt the Democrats":
President Bill Clinton didn't waste his first term -- he presided over the longest economic boom in American history. Fact! During his administration, we had the lowest unemployment, jobs were created, crime dropped, the budget was cut and a surplus was created, there was a lower cost of living -- i.e., fuel, drugs, medical care -- and the Dow hit 10,000, etc.
Republicans held up Clinton's judicial positions and started the backlog on our courts. None of Bush's judicial nominees has been voted down in the full Senate, although two were stopped in the Judiciary Committee.
Remember Newt Gingrich's "Contract on America." They closed down the government to stop a raise for children's lunch programs. Talk about stalling -- Newt wanted "Social Security to wither and die on the vine."
Also, as a parent, where is the outrage from the religious right? What happened to family values? Jeb Bush and George Bush have children that are taking cocaine, getting drunk, partying night and day and breaking the rule of law!
Al Gore won the majority vote and that didn't give George Bush a mandate!
