Children's programs held at Red Rock

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

A Riddle: A 3 1/2 mile moderate hike, Monday.

Desert Babies: Program consists of storytelling, crafts and a snack for preschoolers, Tuesday. RSVP.

OJT luncheon celebrates holidays

The Hanukkah and Christmas holiday seasons will be celebrated at a luncheon Monday for the Las Vegas Organization of Resources for Technological Training.

The luncheon meeting will be 11:30 a.m. at Ellis Island, 4178 E. Koval Lane.

Rachel Ventura, a former student of the Organization for Technological Training, will tell of her learning experience in the ORJ's Tel Aviv School of Design.

The public is invited to attend the buffet lunch. Admission is $14.

Bennett College leader to speak

Johnnetta Cole, the newly elected president of the predominately black Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C., will speak 12:30 p.m. Saturday at a fund-raiser at the Bel Air Room of the Golden Nugget.

The luncheon is being hosted by the Urban Chamber of Commerce, Alumni of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Delta Sigma Theta Inc., The Links, Inc., United Methodist Women of the North District, Bennett College Alumnae Association, Desert Spring and Zion United Methodist churches.

Cole is an author, lecturer and anthropologist, former president of Spelman College, the first black woman in that post, and professor emerita of Emory University. She also served on former President Bill Clinton's transition team in 1992.

Miss Nevada USA

and Miss Nevada Teen USA will be crowned Saturday at the Fiesta Henderson. Tickets for the final show at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St., are available by calling 452-4740.

The fourth annual Hillel Hanukkah

auction at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Moyer Student Union Ballroom. The event will feature a live auction, desserts and entertainment. Tickets are $25; $45 a couple. RSVP to 736-0887.

The Anthony L. Pollard Foundation

will present its annual Art for Education event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Four Seasons hotel's Palm Room. The free event, which is open to the public, will feature two evenings of fine art and sculpture, with proceeds benefiting Rainbow Dreams, a program of the foundation. Opportunity Village
