Citizens fire class applications due
Friday, Nov. 22, 2002 | 9:40 a.m.
Applications for the 2003 class of the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Citizens Fire Academy are now available at fire department headquarters.
Applications will be accepted until Jan. 4. The Citizens Fire Academy will begin in February, with graduation in May.
The program is designed to provide an insight for the average citizen on how the fire department operates and what the duties of fire personnel are. Participants are given tours of fire department facilities, attend lectures given by fire personnel, learn CPR, are given the opportunity to wear firefighting gear while battling a simulated building fire and get to ride with an actual fire crew on emergency calls to see what it is like to respond to such incidents.
One class will meet Tuesday evenings, the other class on Thursday evenings. Classes begin the week of Feb. 25 and graduation is scheduled for May 6.
