Dog and cat sanctuary near Sloan OK’d

The Heaven Can Wait Foundation got approval Wednesday from the Clark County Commission to open a dog and cat sanctuary near Sloan.
County planning staff members had recommended denial, and about three dozen residents from Sloan had written the county arguing against the sanctuary. But about two dozen supporters attended the county zoning meeting, and dozens more had written to support the zone change needed for the sanctuary.
The planned sanctuary would provide a place where dogs and cats could be kept without fear of euthanasia.
Nicole Dutt-Roberts, foundation president, said the group would continue raising money to meet a $1 million goal needed to buy the 10 acres of land for the sanctuary and begin to put up buildings, which would include a veterinary clinic and kennels.
The proposal passed 5-0.
"It's taken an enormous amount of dedication from the folks at the Heaven Can Wait Foundation," Commissioner Erin Kenny said.
