Two Medal of Valor awards highlight program for Metro

Sheriff Jerry Keller awarded Metro Police Sgt. Gary Hood and Officer Craig Olson Medals of Valor during a Metro Police commendation awards ceremony Tuesday.
The two men were honored for taking control of a violent confrontation while working the annual Laughlin River Run on April 27.
Hood and Olson were in the parking lot of Harrah's when two motorcycle gangs began fighting inside the casino and shots were fired.
The two officers went inside and tried to control the crowd while calling for assistance. Two of the bikers with guns ran toward the officers, one raising his gun in his direction. Hood fired one shot in their direction.
Hood and Olson approached the armed bikers and ordered them to the floor.
