A corporate giant and a small operator in the cardboard box manufacturing industry have formed a partnership to operate a new plant in North Las Vegas.
Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., a Chicago-based manufacturer of packaging products with 10 major customers in Las Vegas, and Sound Packaging, a Chandler, Ariz., company that specializes in corrugated boxes, have formed a 50-50 partnership on a 71,000-square-foot plant that eventually could employ 100 people.
Leon Gale, chief executive of Sound Packaging, said the operation will be known as Las Vegas Container and will be the first corrugated manufacturer to serve the Las Vegas area. The plant will be in operation by the end of the year, Gale said.
The companies are leasing manufacturing and office space from Centra Properties at Craig Road and Lamb Boulevard.
