Letter: Editorial about Sen. Shaffer raises questions
Monday, Nov. 18, 2002 | 9:52 a.m.
Interesting, since the Sun on Oct. 23, 2000, also stated, "Democrat Ray Shaffer has represented the residents of District 2 for 16 years. The North Las Vegas resident hasn't been the flashiest legislator, but he quietly has built a record of serving his constituents. The Sun endorses Shaffer."
I also searched and very quickly found two bills that Shaffer introduced that the Sun covered, one requiring taxi companies to set up a program for the transportation of elderly and handicapped people, and another requiring that those running for office disclose criminal records. It sounded to me as if the Sun thought the senator was serving his constituents then.
So which is it? Is his record less than stellar as a member of the GOP but solid as a Democrat. Or is the Sun saying it expects less of Democrats than it does of Republicans? Or was it simply reversing its own editorial position?
