Letter: Robber barons have their way
Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 | 10:06 a.m.
Where is a modern day Teddy Roosevelt when we need him? The original T.R. recognized the blatant evil of the robber barons and he was responsible for the inheritance tax law, which, of course, the Republicans have been trying to kill. They have the lust to kill it because their god is Mammon, the god of riches!
Some of the other changes the Republicans dream about are aimed at the ordinary people who work for a living. They are the busting of the unions and reducing the minimum wage.
And what about the Federal Reserve Board? Nobody likes to pay high interest rates, but when the Republicans are in control they lower them to stimulate our bad economy. That is blatantly unfair because when the Democrats are in control (Have you forgotten the good economy under President Clinton?), the Fed strives to raise the interest rates to slow the economy.
Well, here is one Democrat who has never missed voting in national elections and I am 84 years old. I will keep fighting against injustice and for fairness for all our people, even Republicans, although I have no love for the Republican Party.
