GV beaten by Galena in state tournament

There will be a new state champion in class 4A girls volleyball this season.
Defending titlist Green Valley fell to Galena, 4-15, 15-6, 15-7, 15-13, in Thursday's quarterfinals of the 4A State Tournament in Reno. The Gators were the top seed from the Sunrise Region.
Galena, the second seed from the north, will now take on Sunset top seed Durango in tonight's semifinals. The Blazers continued their terrific season by handily dispatching Douglas (N-3), 15-7, 15-12, 15-12. That semifinal begins at 5 p.m. tonight.
In the other half of the bracket, Silverado (SR-2) advanced to the semfinals by ousting Palo Verde (SS-2), 15-12, 15-5, 15-8. The Skyhawks are in the semifinal round for the second straight season.
Silverado will meet the north's top team, Churchill County, in that contest. Churchill County knocked Bishop Gorman (SS-3) from the tournament by a 15-7, 15-8, 15-2 score. That match starts at 7 p.m.
