Action to stop BLM auction denied

A local environmental activist's request for a federal restraining order to stop today's Bureau of Land Management land auction was denied Thursday.
Bob Hall, president of the Nevada Environmental Coalition, filed the request Tuesday in U.S. District Court to stop today's auction of 1,140 acres, including three parcels totaling 990 acres in southwest Las Vegas.
Hall has been a longtime critic of the BLM's selling of public lands, saying that the federal agency has not determined the effects that developing the land will have on Las Vegas air quality.
"The BLM is just dumping more land on a valley that already has air pollution problems," Hall said. "I'm just trying to get the BLM to pay attention to the environmental laws of this country."
In June U.S. District Court Judge Lloyd George dismissed a similar request for an injunction by Hall to stop a land auction.
