Gem Club plans annual minishow

The Boulder Gem Club will host its annual minishow from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the new Boulder City Library, 701 Adams Blvd.

Club members will be demonstrating various lapidary skills such as cabochon making, rock sawing, metalcraft jewelry and carving. There will also be displays of fossils and fluorescent rocks.

YMCA will host mentoring sessions

Parents, youth, mentors and all who work with or desire to work with youth are invited to attend "Mentoring Above and Beyond 2002," two free half-day workshops from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Nov. 23 at the Bennett Family YMCA of Southern Nevada, 4141 Meadows Lane.

Learn about Raising Nevada, a statewide initiative based on the Developmental Assets Framework, a tool that facilitates healthier relationships with the youth. In addition, all youth sports/recreational coaches/volunteer/mentors can hear about the nationally recognized "Time out for better sports for kids."
