Commissioner pleads guilty

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. -- A former baseball commissioner who gambled away thousands of dollars in funds from a youth baseball league he controlled has pleaded guilty to felony theft charges in a related case.
George T. Lycos, 42 pleaded guilty Tuesday to an investment scam in which he tricked friends and neighbors into investing $800,000 in a fictional business.
Lycos was the Elk Grove Village Youth Baseball commissioner until his arrest in June 2001.
In the newest case, Lycos admitted that between January 1999 and May 2001 he stole money from two couples, 11 individuals and two businesses. Those fraudulent investments ranged from $436,200 to $2,600.
Lycos could serve between four to 15 years in prison on four of the counts. The other counts could mean up to seven years in prison.
He also faces a maximum fine of $25,000.
