Bally Gaming Inc. of Las Vegas sued International Game Technology of Reno and its subsidiary Anchor Gaming in U.S. District Court, alleging Bally has been wrongfully accused of infringing several IGT gaming patents.
Bally is a unit of Alliance Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas.
Bally said it took legal action against IGT and Anchor Gaming in a pre-emptive strike against their alleged threat to sue Bally, whom they accused of infringing on IGT's patents in its "Thrillions" multi-area progressive slot system and Monte Carlo progressive jackpot slot machine.
Ed Rogich, IGT's vice president of marketing, disputed Bally's claim. "IGT has a lot of patents and will use all methods to defend the patents that we have issued."
