Delay seen for public hearing on 2,749-unit development

Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 | 9:15 a.m.

A 2,749-unit residential development is being proposed for 375 acres southeast of Tropical Parkway and Pecos Road in North Las Vegas.

A public hearing on the development is scheduled Wednesday before the city Planning Commission, but a city planner and development company official said the hearing will probably be postponed.

The city needs more detailed plans to evaluate the proposed development, city planner Robert Eastman said.

Brad Burns, local division president for developer Centex Homes, said the commission would probably postpone the hearing for 30 days.

Although a specific layout for the homes in the proposed development has not been submitted to the city, Burns said about 85 percent of the 2,749 units in the Shadow Crossings development would be single-family homes, with the rest of the units probably in townhouses.

Shadow Crossings would also include a 45-acre park, and 20 to 30 acres set aside for commercial uses, Burns said.

Eastman and Burns said if the development is approved, it could be the third largest development in North Las Vegas, behind the planned Aliante and Eldorado communities.
