Bette J. Barquist
Bette J. Barquist, 80, of Henderson and Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Colfax, Iowa. A Southern Nevada resident for 60 years, she retired as a secretary/bookkeeper for Barquist Sheet Metal, a company she and her husband operated on Industrial Road for 34 years.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Barquist of Clayton, N.M., and Ed Barquist of Henderson; two sisters, Thelma Rawlings of Kensington, Ky., and Dorothy O'Dell of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.
Freda Brown
Freda Brown, 48, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born March 5, 1954, in Fort Polk, La. A resident for 12 years, she was a bartender.
She is survived by one daughter, Bobbie Archut of Oak Park, Ill.; her mother and stepfather, Eva Nell and George Ragsdale, and her father and stepmother, Louie and Helen Ann Brown, all of Bearden, Ark.; two sisters, Brenda Salerno of Las Vegas and Loretta Hyde of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Jimmy Brown and Louie Brown Jr., both of Dallas; and her companion, Jeff Cheek of Las Vegas.
Services were scheduled at 1 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Frederick 'Dan' Brown
Frederick "Dan" Brown, 63, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 18, 1939, in Vancouver, British Columbia. A resident for 12 years, he was a real estate agent.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine L.; two daughters, Debbie Greer of Las Vegas and Shannon Alford of Sacramento; one son, Rhett Brown of Sacramento; one brother, John Brown of Henderson; and four grandchildren.
Neptune Society of Nevada, 8570 Del Webb Blvd., is handling private arrangements.
Mercedes Elizabeth Burns
Mercedes Elizabeth Burns, 71, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. A resident for 10 years, she was born Aug. 20, 1931, in Pittsburgh.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Jr. of Henderson; one son, Ernest Burns III of California; two daughters, Marlene Powell and Rosina Burns, both of Henderson; one sister, Delores Danko of California; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Jack Rickey Demeere
Jack Rickey Demeere, 50, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in North Las Vegas. He was born June 28, 1952, in Detroit. A resident for seven years, he was a hotel engineer and an Army veteran.
He is survived by his fiancee, Iris Floodman; three sons, Justin N. Demeere of Pittsburgh, Remi J. Demeere of London, Tenn., and Jonathon R. Demeere of Michigan; two daughters, Tina Demeere and Jennifer Demeere; one brother, Joe Demeere of Michigan; two sisters, Rene Mientek of Texas and Sandra Fortier of Pennsylvania; and one grandchild.

Harry Dowell
Harry Dowell, 74, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 22, 1928, in Illinois. A resident for many years, he was a retired merchant seaman.
He is survived by one sister, Darlene Todd of Illinois.
No local services are scheduled. Burial will be in Illinois. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.
Aaron E. Duis
Aaron E. Duis, 37, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 19, 1965, in Fort Sill, Okla. A resident for 23 years, he was a cook.
He is survived by one daughter, Nicole Duis, and his parents, Larry and Irene Duis, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Adam Duis of Woodstock, Ill.; and his grandparents, John and Maria Sandoval and Alice Knebel of Waterloo, Iowa.
Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Saturday and noon-1 p.m. Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.
Joseph DuPlante
Joseph DuPlante, 52, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 30, 1949, in Van Nuys, Calif. A resident for seven years, he was a retired craftsman.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; one daughter, Jackey DuPlante, and one son, Joey DuPlante, both of Carlsbad, Calif.; and two sisters, Sue Becker of Las Vegas and Dee Wells of Grand Junction, Colo.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.
Augusta Earls
Augusta Earls, 88, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. He was born April 2, 1914, in Arkansas. A resident for 21 years, he was an emergency vehicle driver for the city of Chicago and a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by one son, Augus Earl, four daughters, Mattie Watson, Bertha Cosby, Augustine Lane and Hannah Johnson, and two sisters, Winnie Bell Cox and Tressie Reid, all of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 7-8 p.m. today in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in American Burial and Cremation Services. A private burial will follow.
Herman Charles Hanshew
Herman Charles Hanshew, 66, of North Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Virginia. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; six daughters, Debra Patrick, Katrina Turner, Bobbi Jo LeCates and Valerie Winterton, all of Las Vegas and Cheryl Davis and Christina Hanshew, both of Colorado; four sons, Kenneth, Kevin, Harold and Keith, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Nellie Hanshew of Virginia; one sister, Margaret Moseley of Georgia; 29 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were scheduled at 10 a.m. today in the LDS Stake Center on Tonopah Avenue, followed by graveside services in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.
Peggy R. Hightower
Peggy R. Hightower, 66, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Idaho. A resident for 40 years, she was the head cook at a hospital.
She is survived by one son, Carey D. Hightower of Las Vegas; three brothers, Dwayne McNeil of Montana and Bill Hunter and Ray Hunter, both of Idaho; and two grandchildren.

Carol M. Hildreth
Carol M. Hildreth, 72, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Albany, Calif. A resident for 40 years, she was an employee in the restaurant industry for 30 years.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Hildreth of Washington state and Ricky Hildreth of Boulder City; and two grandchildren.

Barbara Hobbs
Barbara Hobbs, 43, of Las Vegas died Nov. 1 in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 3, 1959, in Newport News, Va. A resident for 16 years, she was a hotel pantry worker.
She is survived by her husband, Jerald; three daughters, Anjleke Hobbs of Philadelphia and Parkrr Hobbs and Sabra Hobbs, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Bryne Hobbs and Christian Hobbs, both of Las Vegas; her father, Joseph Nalaschi of Texas; three sisters, Elisa Nalaschi and Frances Lincoln, both of Virginia, and Mary Nalaschi of Maryland; and one brother, Joseph Nalaschi of Pennsylvania.
Visitation is scheduled 2-3 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.
Mildred Lally
Mildred Lally, 76, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born March 3, 1926, in Cleveland. A resident for 15 years, she was a retired executive secretary for an aerospace company.
She is survived by one daughter, Janice Lally of Westport, Conn.; one sister, Jack Lally Jr. of Las Vegas; and one sister, Ellen Engoglia of Chatsworth, Calif.

H.D. 'Mel' Melton
H.D. "Mel" Melton, 80, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 5, 1922, in Quail, Texas. A resident for 44 years, he was a retired hotel bartender, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of Henderson Elks Lodge 2802 and a 56-year member of the organization.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Pam Teutsch of Henderson; one son, Paul Hadden, and two sisters, Billie Brewer and Nina Cole, all of Washington state; two brothers, Herman Melton of Virginia and Don Payne of Florida; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Elks Lodge, 631 E. Lake Mead Drive, Henderson. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
Leonard A. Mortimer
Leonard A. Mortimer, 77, of North Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born June 19, 1925, in Greenfield Park, Quebec. A resident for nine years, he was a retired electrician and a World War II Canadian Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; and one brother, Henry Mortimer of Montreal.

Walter Stanko, 73, of Henderson died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Pennsylvania. A resident for many years, he was an industrial engineer.

Phoebe Stromp
Phoebe Stromp, 70, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born July 23, 1932, in Michigan. A resident for many years, she was a secretary for an electrical company.
She is survived by her husband, William Stromp.

Mary Elizabeth Stutts
Mary Elizabeth Stutts, 85, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Shiloh, Tenn. A resident for 40 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by seven daughters, Ann Stutts of Woodland Hills, Calif., Billie White of Redding, Calif., Gloria Stutts-Pelarski, Nancy Long and Belinda Rhodes, all of Las Vegas, Betty Scott of Boonville, N.Y., and Peggy Crane of Boise, Idaho; one son, Chuck Stutts of Pahrump; one sister, Ernestine Wombel of Florence, Ala.; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Juana Zelidon
Juana Zelidon, 96, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born June 24, 1906, in El Salvador. A resident for 22 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Luis Zelidon of Las Vegas; five daughters, Emma Amado of California and Rosa Carrasco, Margarita Alvarez, Angela Limbocker and Marina Rosa, all of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
