Letter: If you can’t stand the smell …
Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 | 9:30 a.m.
This is in reference to the recent article about the family-owned pig farm. It was originally in a remote area where there were no homes nearby. Slowly people moved in closer to the pig farm and the inevitable smell.
Now everyone is in an uproar because the thing smells. Well, what do pigs do if they don't smell?
A similar problem exists at Nellis Air Force Base. People moved into that area and then started complaining about the noise pollution. How can our fighter jets fly without noise? It's even worse during Red Flag training.
Alas, the Henderson plant in a remote area became plagued with people moving in next door and complaining about the smell.
Perhaps the powers-that-be should not give permits to build close to potential aggravations. As well, the home builders and buyers should not build or buy in an area that has pre-existing aggravations.
It is not fair to the ones who are there already to have to pay fines or have to relocate because of someone else's sensibilities.
