Las Vegas Collects II opens tonight

Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 | 9:40 a.m.

Claude Monet's painting "House of the Custom's Officer, Varengeville" will join works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Jim Dine at the Las Vegas Art Museum.

The works are part of Las Vegas Collects II, an exhibit opening tonight featuring the private collections of prominent local art collectors.

More than 100 pieces will be included. Collectors include Wally Goodman and Patrick Duffy, Lee Cagley, Dave Carver, Brian Cantor and Marc Glimcher.

Broken down into three sections -- Pop Art, Contemporary Art and 19th Century French Paintings -- the exhibit features paintings and sculptures by national and international artists.

The largest collection, filling one room, belongs to Goodman and Duffy, who moved to Las Vegas more than one year ago.

The other two rooms will be divided between pop art and French 19th century paintings.

Works by contemporary painter/sculptor Sol Le Witt, and photographer William Wylie will also be included in the exhibit.

This is the museum's second exhibit highlighting local collections.

Marianne Lorenz, executive director for the Las Vegas Art Museum, said such exhibits are a way to highlight local collections and resources within the community.

The museum at 9600 W. Sahara Ave., is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 360-3800.
