CARSON CITY -- The number of women in the 2003 Legislature will drop to 18, the lowest number since 1993.
But there will be a record seven female state senators, surpassing the previous mark of five, from 1993 to 2001.
There will be 11 women in the Assembly, the lowest number since nine in 1991. Last year there were 17 women in the Assembly.
The figures were supplied Wednesday by the research division of the Legislative Counsel bureau.
There will be 16 freshman legislators with no previous legislative experience out of the 63 lawmakers. That's the highest number since 17 in 1993. In 2001, there were only three lawmakers with no previous experience.
Three Senate members -- Republicans Dennis Nolan, Barbara Cegavske and Sandra Tiffany, all of Clark County -- served last session in the Assembly.
