Letter: Abortion dangers not explained

Regarding George Will's Oct. 29 column, "Abortion culture infiltrates legal cases":
Three cheers for George Will for having the courage to ask the question generally ignored by the media, "Abortion kills something. What is it?" Planned Parenthood, NOW, NARAL and other abortion-oriented organizations would have us believe that the product of conception is just a "clump of cells," a "blob of tissue," or other such nonsense.
Will makes us look at the truth. When a human sperm unites with a human ovum, a human being is created. Our culture protects that human being from harm from everyone except his/her mother, who has now been given the immoral, though legal, "right" to murder him or her.
Also, the media neglects to report on the studies which have been done that show how abortion also harms (even kills) the mother. Instead, we keep hearing the Planned Parenthood mantra that abortion is a "safe" procedure. Actually, abortion can cause a perforated uterus, a perforated bowel, fatal infections, infertility, breast cancer, blood clots, hemorrhaging, sterility, cervical lacerations and personality disturbances to name just a few things.
We are overdue in recognizing that abortion is a medical/surgical procedure with associated risks. We have informed consent laws governing these risks. Somehow abortionists are getting away with keeping this information from mothers. Let's close that loophole before more women become injured or die as a result of the abortion procedures.
