Five-car crash leaves driver dead
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 | 9:43 a.m.
Metro Police are investigating a Monday afternoon, five-vehicle accident on Las Vegas Boulevard South that left one man dead and injured four others.
One of the drivers apparently made an unsafe lane change, Metro investigators said.
The accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. near Robindale Road and closed Las Vegas Boulevard between Warm Springs Road and Windmill Lane for most of the afternoon.
Police said Scott Edward Andersen, 34, was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee south on Las Vegas Boulevard when his car was struck by another sport utility vehicle veering over from the northbound lanes.
Andersen was killed.
Police said a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup started the chain reaction when, during a lane change, side-swiping an SUV, which spun into the southbound lanes colliding with three cars, including Andersen's vehicle.
Four people were taken to University Medical Center, where they were treated for moderate injuries.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured and any charges he may face are pending the completion of an investigation, police said.
This accident is the 118th fatal traffic collision in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
