Diabetes fair at St. Rose Dominican
St. Rose Dominican Hospital has scheduled its Diabetes Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the MacDonald Conference Center at the hospital's Siena Campus, 3001 St. Rose Parkway.
The fair, part of Diabetes Awareness Month, will provide information on diabetes, its complications and ways to prevent the disease or effectively manage it.
The event will also include information on diabetes-related eye disease, foot care and diet information, blood sugar checks, blood pressure screenings, samples of sugar free snacks, and tips for reducing stress, blood sugar and weight through low impact exercise.
Various representatives will display the latest in blood sugar monitors. To register or for more information, call Dorothy Stade at 616-4327.
Gents & Lads gather at Booker
Booker Elementary School will hold its sixth annual Gents & Lads Banquet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the school's multi-purpose room, 2277 Martin Luther King Blvd.
The free event will feature a catered dinner, sponsored by the Black Chefs of Las Vegas, and performances by the "lads" of Booker, including singing, dancing, poetry readings and drawings.

Pick up the pace at Red Rock
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:
About Face: Dale's forward and backward four-mile strenuous fast-paced hike.
Tortoise Trot: Red Rock Canyon's first trail run scheduled Saturday. Entries for the four-mile run or two-mile walk must be received by Friday. For more information, call 363-1922.
Ancient Art II: Pictographs & Petroglyphs," is a three-mile moderate hike, mixed in with a 4x4 trek on Sunday.
Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church,
2120 Lindell Road, will host a Wine and Cheese Tasting Party from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in honor of its 10th anniversary as a parish. Call 873-5101.
The First Christian Church,
101 S. Rancho Drive, will host its All Church Holiday Craft and Gift Market at 8 a.m. Saturday. The event will feature fall and Christmas gifts and decorations for family and home, pottery and glassware, children's books, entertainment, homemade candy, and fried chicken. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk
will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway, to raise money for care services, information, and the education of the disease. For more information, call 248-2770.
The Miss Chinatown Las Vegas
Beauty Pageant will be held 7 p.m. Saturday at Chinatown Plaza, 4255 Spring Mountain Road. Tickets prices are $12-$50. No children ages 6 and under. For more information, call Eric at 873-6686.
