CAMERON, La. -- A local government lost an attempt Saturday to put a gambling referendum on its Tuesday ballot when the Louisiana Supreme Court refused to hear the case.
Cameron Parish had appealed after a circuit court ruled the parish could not hold a referendum to attract a riverboat casino. State attorneys argued only the Legislature can approve local gambling referendums and designate waterways for gambling.
