Friday, May 31, 2002 | 9:48 a.m.
The Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour visits Las Vegas for the PBA Suncoast Senior World Championship Sunday-Friday. The tournament marks the fifth of 10 events on the 2002 PBA Senior Tour, and the final major of the year. More than 200 bowlers are expected to compete for the $20,000 top prize.
The Suncoast event replaces the PBA Senior National Championship which was contested from 1981-2001.
The tournament will use the single-elimination match play bracket first made popular on the National Tour. Beginning with the round of 32, advancing bowlers will face each other in best-of-7, head-to-head matches. The rounds of 16 and 8 will be best-of-5, along with the semifinals and final.
Notables expected to compete are Bob Glass, Mark Roth, Dave Davis, Ernie Schlegel, Dave Soutar and Dick Weber. Admission to the tournament is free.
