Object jams traffic at dam

Friday, May 31, 2002 | 9:53 a.m.

Traffic over Hoover Dam was stopped for more than two hours Thursday afternoon after a Bureau of Reclamation worker noticed a suspicious metal box in a dam parking lot.

The object turned out to be a metal box containing string and chalk used for measuring in construction projects, bureau spokesman Bob Walsh said.

Traffic was routed around the dam until about 2:45 p.m. when it was determined that the box posed no danger. Tours continued uninterrupted at the dam.

The parking lot where the box was found was about a quarter-mile from the dam on the Arizona side.
